About Pyrite Dreams
Pyrite, or fool’s gold, has been a fascination of mine since childhood. I discovered what I thought to be gold on a family vacation in the Colorado mountains, but my father informed me it was fool’s gold, a pretty but worthless rock. As an adult, I can understand why gold is valued more than pyrite: it has properties that make it very versatile and useful, and it’s a sufficiently rarer substance. But there is more to value in this world than just monetary worth. Pyrite is beautiful. The universe is made more wonderful and awe-inspiring because pyrite exists within it. If we only chase what everyone else chases, we will miss the stunning beauty of the overlooked things in life. We’ll miss what this life is actually about.
I see my writings in this vein. I want to highlight, not necessarily the things that others deem “valuable,” but to retain that childlike wonder of discovering something mundane, and valuing it for what it is. Much of my writing is the exploration of thoughts and interests I’ve had since childhood. I love history, mythology, comedy, cartoons, and a whole host of other eclectic passions, and they may not be the most “valuable” things, but they fascinate me, bring me joy, make me feel young, re-enchant me with the beautiful, magical world we live in. And the older I get, the more I realize the true value in the simple things we overlook, the fool’s gold that other people discard as useless.
So here are my dreams, my pyrite dreams. They are precious to me. They remind me the world is endlessly fascinating. They fill me with awe and joy. And I hope they can do that for you, too.
